Have you heard of these dishes? Probably you wouldn't have. But If we plan this weekend to Hotel Oasia Downtown in Singapore, We could enjoy  all these. Yes, This hotel at Singapore is designed with such an architectural marvel which keeps the complete building 10° to 20° C comparatively cooler than the adjacent buildings. Elevation of this 190 meter high building is decorated with 20 species of plants and this becomes the living tower of Singapore.

Why such a importance is given to this building?

Singapore being least populated country ranks 27th in emitting Green House Gases(GHG). Singapore is getting warmer comparatively at faster rate. As the world experiences the consequences of climate change, We are in need to go ahead with this kind of green buildings which kicks away the usage of more electricity and many other parameters which drives to global warming and also reduces the use of freshwater, conserves natural resources and restricts the use of forest produces. This kind of buildings are known as green buildings.

Do India have these kind of initiatives?

Yes, India has its own Indian Green Building Council(IGBC) which was formed by Confederation of Indian Industry(CII) in 2001.

This professional body consists of 5000 plus proficient architects across the nation and provides guidelines for promoting green buildings and also rates the buildings as platinum, gold and silver according  to their implication of green building  concepts. Till date 2383 buildings were rated as green buildings in India by IGBC which accounts of tons of energy conserved.

The IGBC headquarters at Hyderabad is platinum rated green building and it is net zero emission building.

Finally, The catchy point from this post is to promote sustainable and eco-friendly  construction which in turn reduces the Green House Gas emissions and promotes healthier and wealthier society.

Imagine a government at the centre ruling over 565 independent heads of princely states! Will that be a viable task? British gave three options for those princely states.
