Indian Elections!

Indian Elections!

India is the country where you and me are different in every aspect, But, come together as Indian!

People living here speak various languages, subscribe to different religious practices, wear different outfits, enjoy lovely cuisine, varieties of cultural procedures and so on. Nothing is mono in India, Starting, from geography to food, Every Indian has his/her own choices.

Which Ideology to be chosen?

When we look for political history of our country, we have multiple parties standing before us. Ideological diversities exist along with those parties. Surprisingly, each and every party have their own ideologies which is rarely seen in the world politics. To elaborate further, An USA citizen can choose either democrats or republicans. Russians always go for socialism. Chinese enjoys communist monopoly. In fact, in this globalized world in one or the other way everyone is becoming capitalist. Russia can not deny the fact that indirectly capitalism penetrated in to it. But Indians have multiple choices infront of them. We are neither complete capitalist nor complete socialists. Though, our constitution imbibes socialist values in it, we are moving away from that ideology to the wider one called “Nation First”. To achieve this Nation first “National Interest” comes in to play. Political parties in India must be ready to compromise even their own political ideology in pursuit of the wider one called Nation first. “Nation is above all, Now and forever” this is to be the focus of leaders who are striving hard to capture the power. They should emphasis the nation first than their party. Electors of those leaders should be educated on this philosophy and they should firmly demand the national first view from their representatives when they approach them for votes.

Indian Elections- An elephantine process!

India had its first general elections in 1952. Then and now India was/ is the biggest democracy in the world. Conducting elections with wide diversity in the society was the biggest challenge to the new born child called “Election Commision of India”. Around 17 Crore people registered and 44% of the people voted in the elections of 1952. Totally 53 parties and 533 independent candidates contested elections for 489 Seats in the Lok Sabha then. Mr. Sukumar Sen, First Election Commissioner of India should be highly appreciated for conducting first general elections. Remember, that was the era in which India was facing huge turmoil due to partition, internal food security and so on. Conducting elections was not an easy task then. Many Election Commissioners to be remembered for their fantabulous contribution towards making elections free and fair. Mr. T N Seshan, Election Commissioner who brought in enormous changes in the process of conducting elections. He firmly stood against those who saw Election Commission merely as political body and tried to influence it. He once famously said “I eat politicians for breakfast” which showed his integrity. Selfless and patriotic officers like him made this the biggest festival of democracy in the world. There are officers who carried the ballot papers and other election essentials on the camel or some times on their barefoot to the unreachable places like hills and rough terrains to get the votes of those living in those fragile areas. This led to the India in which we live sophisticatedly. In 2024 elections, You and I vote along with 96 crore eligible voters, in 7 phases of elections, 700 parties are on the battlefield, 19000 players are ready to fight for 543 seats. Feel proud to be part of the biggest ever festival of democracy.

An appeal!

As Indians we should be really proud. India was the nation in the world which implied “universal Adult franchise” in its first elections post-independence. It means, Rich/Poor, Higher Caste/Lower Caste, Male/Female, Healthy/ un healthy, Young/Old, religious/atheist, Landlord/Landless anyone who have crossed 18 years are eligible to choose their rulers. Remember, USA given the voting rights to their women citizen in 1960s only after 100 years of their independence which we provided in the very first election post-independence.

It is our duty to take part in free and fair elections. We should refrain ourself from influence of those who try to bring down the holiness of this process by offering material benefits to the people prior to elections. Kindly do not pursue that we are getting what we were contributed. It may give an advantage to those corrupted individuals and they might suppress our rights when they come to power. We may lose the power of negotiating and demanding our rights.

This is the platform where we can see new India by just practicing our fundamental duty.

One vote matters a lot!

Be proud to be a first-time voter!

Vote widely, Choose wisely!
